Alfa Romeo Giulia, a typically Italian flavour

The Italian company has finalized its triumphant return to the saloon segment with an impressing, passionate and sporty machine. With just a quick glimpse at the new Giulia, we can confirm that the Milan brand, established 1910, has taken very seriously one of the most popular commercial slogans: “sporting heart”.

 Alfa Romeo Giulia is a premium class sports sedan, which was named after a legendary model of the same brand, manufactured in the 60s and 70s of the last century. It is therefore a retrospective look at the past machine linked to an ambitious commitment to the future. An evolution that the Italian designers also wanted to inscribe in the logo, which has undergone a small cosmetic surgery to get a more modern and minimalist form.

This mechanical titan is built around a rear-wheel drive architecture, created to distinguish this model from the competition, both in the field of emotion and design. Its exterior lines are reminiscent of Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione. If you look closely, the Giulia’s body also has some clear references to the new range of Ferrari and Maserati. This glance at the sport models taken by the Alfa Romeo’s designers has resulted in a really impressing machine, full of details and expressive lines, agility and power.

The front of the car, like in all vehicles of this brand, is the most significant feature of its look. Large and lavish, fully functional air inlets emphasize its front splitter with an active air intake that increases the vehicle’s downforce. The Giulia’s hood is a piece of art, full of curved, organic forms, twin ventilation outlets and front fenders which feature the most exclusive Alfa Romeo badge, the Quadrifolgio Verde emblem.

The visual design differs from the traditional, round shapes of Alfa, conveying an intentional, feline form. The side profile of the vehicle is more muscular, while the rear is finished with four exhaust pipes framed in a functional diffuser. To complete this image the Italian designers decided to equip Giulia with a split carbon fibre spoiler and headlights with a significant whiff of Maserati. The interior is dominated by an absolute minimalism, with a focus on driving, accentuating the start button which had been integrated into a small-diameter steering wheel. The dashboard perfectly combines analogue elements with digital world. In terms of engine, Alfa Romeo has taken the opposite direction than usual, first introducing the most powerful version of the Giulia and then planning to give way to its more calm and accessible models. The known Alfa Romeo (Quadrifoglio) version is a monster with a Ferrari V6 engine that develops 510 hp. This unit allows acceleration from 0-100 km/h in impressive 3.9 seconds, reaching the top speed of over 300 km/h, making this sedan a real missile… The weight distribution between the two axes of the vehicle is almost perfect. With the centre of gravity located low, this car has the most rigid chassis among all vehicles in its segment. Giulia is equipped with the Integrated Brake System technology that combines the power of a brake servo with the control of stability to make this mechanical beast brake as it should.

The latest communications from the brand mention that the more equipped Giulia, which we presented in LookOut, will be released on the market with a 6-month delay, starting from now. The dates are even more uncertain when it comes to more distant markets such as the US or Asia, with the possible launch even in the first months of 2017.

As mentioned before, the last versions that will be available for sale in dealerships all over the world will be the more affordable ones, both petrol and diesel vehicles, with the AWD models coming much later. So if you’ve already fallen in love with this car and consider a purchase, you still have time until the second half of 2017 to save up some money.
