The total expenditure by international tourists on their trips to Spain between January and May set a new record by reaching 21,809 million euros, 8.4% more than in the first five months of 2014, according to the Tourism Expenditure Survey (EGATUR) conducted by the General Department of Tourism Knowledge and Studies of the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism.
UK, with 4,217 million euros and a variation of 10.8%, and France with 2,224 million and 16.5% were the two source markets that contributed most in terms of spending until May.
The Canary Islands was the community which recorded the highest expenditure in that period, with 5,419 million euros, a rise of 1.3%, followed by Catalonia, with an increase of 8.2%, and Andalusia, with 10.3%.

Tourists who chose hotel accommodation spent 14,146 million euros between January and May, an increase of 5.5%, making it the accomodation scheme which accounted for 64.9% of the total. In May, it constituted 66.5% of the total, making it the highest-grossing with 3,918 million, up 5%.
Travel spending of tourists who chose to travel without tour package rose by 11.5% between January and May, up 14,605 million, compared to 7,204 million which corresponded to those who traveled with one. In May, travel package-free travels went up 17.5%, amounting to 3,922 million euros, while those organized with package rose by 2.1%.
