Everyone knows Spain is full of beautiful villages, and now the President of the Association of the Most Beautiful Villages of Spain, Francisco Mestre has assumed the presidency of the Federation of the Most Beautiful Villages of the World on behalf of Spain for the next two years.

The federation is composed of more than 500 beautiful villages in Spain (68 in total), France, Canada, Belgium, Italy, Japan and Russia, and its aim is to develop tourism in each of the countries and promote the growth of the member municipalities.

According to a statement from the Spanish organisation, it will work on the preservation and transmission of heritage to future generations, and the development of sustainable international tourism, among other actions, during its presidency.

The Federation of the Most Beautiful Villages of the World analyses the actions that favour the growth in the number of tourists, stays, occupancy, satisfaction and the average spending per person per day, and also studies new ways of promoting and disseminating information about the beauty of these small towns and villages.

All the presidents of the associations in the federation met in the French town of Lourmarin at the end of May to look into implementing promotional and institutional actions that should lead to the creation of specific investment and innovation plans to improve people’s knowledge about these beautiful villages.
The presidency of the federation falls on one of the member countries every two years after the presidents of each national association vote.
