Air Europa and IAG join airlines offering in-flight Wi-Fi

Only a few years ago it sounded like an impossible dream: today it’s a reality, and before too long it will be on board every flight you catch. It’s the ability to connect to the Internet while travelling by plane.

Air Europa has just installed Wi-Fi on its long haul fleet so all the airline’s A330s and Boeing 787s now have a wireless Internet connection.

The service will be available on these aircraft from the moment the fasten seat belts sign is turned off, with three plans on offer: Basic at €7 for a 15Mb connection, Popular at €13 for 30Mb and Premium at €20 for 50Mb.

Meanwhile, IAG, the company that owns Iberia, British Airways, Vueling and Aer Lingus, has also announced that it will be rolling out high speed in-flight Wi-Fi on 341 short-haul aircrafts from 2017 (132 from British Airways, 125 from Vueling, 45 from Iberia and 39 from Aer Lingus).

IAG plans to equip 90% of its fleet with Wi-Fi connectivity by early 2019.

With this move, Air Europa and IAG join Lufthansa and Air France-KLM, who have also announced plans to install in-flight Wi-Fi and already provide it on board many of their aircraft. The pioneers were Norwegian, Turkish Airlines and Hong Kong Airlines who offer the service for free.
