The Portuguese hotel industry survives thanks to the accelerated implementation of a necessary restructuring. Mergers, acquisitions and sales star in a changing landscape

The hotel industry is rising like a bubble of oxygen within the environment of the Portuguese daunting economic sectors. The 13.58 million visitors strengthened tourism as one of the major economic sectors in Portugal, responsible for 14% of GDP and away from the ghost of recession that hit the industry a few years ago. Portugal wins this data itself, with its fine beaches, tourism in cities like Lisbon and Porto and cultural offerings available throughout the country.

The central area of Portugal concentrates the majority of hotels, with a total of 218, not forgetting the capital, which attracts millions of visitors a year. With 206 establishments, the northern region is the second hotel region in terms of importance, especially around Oporto.

Notably, in the extreme south, the small region of Algarve has 112 hotels. And it is because of the great attractions of the area. Incredible beaches, nature and many leisure activities for the whole family make the Algarve a great holiday destination.

Any worthwhile visit to the Algarve should not forget to go through the famous cliffs of Ponta da Piedade (Lagos area) or the Cape of San Vicente (Sagres), where it was thought that the world ended and the beaches of Do Camilo (Lagos), Dona Ana (Lagos) or De los Tres Hermanos (Alvor).

You also can not miss a visit to the cities of Tavira, Olhao and Faro, the capital of the area. And if you’re up for a different and original plan will, you should not miss visiting the town of Pera, which hosts every year from May to October the spectacular International Sand Sculpture Festival, with themes varying in each edition.

A market of opportunities

Setúbal, Estoril, Algarve, Porto and Cascais are the most interesting destinations for investment, especially in resorts, serviced apartments and luxury holiday homes. Portugal offers great quality in the residential tourism sector at attractive prices and in good locations. The combination of the permanent homes with the hotel sector is where the greatest opportunities are concentrated. Spain has a privileged position, due to geographical and cultural proximity, which positions it as a preferred partner. In fact, relations between the two countries have always been good. Portugal buy more from Spain than from all the non-EU countries together and at the same time, Spain is the main destination for portuguese exports

Enjoy the Algarve from BlueBay Porta Nova (Tavira), BlueBay Paraiso de Albufeira and BlueBay Balaia Atlántico (Albufeira).
