Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. has its sights set on another Quantum-class vessel and is now on schedule to operate four Quantum-class ships by the end of the decade.
The global cruise company announced on Thursday that it has reached an agreement with German shipbuilder Meyer Werft to construct another Quantum-class ship scheduled to be delivered sometime in 2019.
The Papenburg, Germany-based shipyard has built two Quantum-class ships for Royal Caribbean already, and is scheduled to deliver another next year.
“Today’s announcement is a reflection of the success of the first two Quantum-class ships,” said Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. chairman and CEO Richard Fain in a statement. “We have received a remarkable response from travel agent partners and travelers, and are thrilled that we’ll be able to deliver another revolutionary ship with our partners at Meyer Werft.”
Royal Caribbean International president and CEO Michael Bayley said “the fourth Quantum class vessel will be a trailblazer in smart-ship design and vacation innovation.”
“Royal Caribbean International is synonymous with adventure, and the icons and amenities on this ship will continue to challenge and expand guests’ expectations of the cruise experience,” added Bayley in a statement.
Royal Caribbean’s first Quantum-class cruise ship, Quantum of the Seas, was completed last fall, while Anthem of the Seas was delivered and christened just last month. The company’s third Quantum ship, Ovation of the Seas, is expected to be completed in the fall of 2016.
Royal Caribbean’s Quantum-class vessels weigh roughly 168,000 tons and can carry more than 4,900 passengers at maximum occupancy.
