Top 5 sustainable swimwear brands

0

Summer is officially here, and if you fancy buying a new swimsuit but don’t want a typical, standard brand that pollutes the environment and does little or nothing to promote the use of locally sourced materials, then you’re in luck. Here’s our top 5 most recommended sustainable brands.

Amara

The Italian brand creates its pieces using recovered nylon from the oceans through the Healthy Seas project. The brand is socially responsible, all the swimsuits are designed and produced in Tulum (Riviera Maya, Mexico) by local artisans, and it regularly organises beach cleanups in the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve.

Deborah Lindquist

This eco-couture brand creates women’s clothing, swimwear, accessories and home decorative accessories from a blend of sustainable, organic and recycled materials.

The designer, who bears the same name, and is known as the Green Queen, contributes to environmental conservation, and health and human rights by donating a percentage of the company’s profits to environmental and health NGOs.

Elle Evans Sustainable Swimwear

Elle Evans and Tanya Evans create beautiful, sustainable swimwear for people who care about fashion and the future. Shying away from mass production and the industrialisation of the fashion sector, they make all their swimsuits in their ethical workspace in Australia. They don’t have an elaborate production, each piece is made to order, and Elle and her team set to work once an order is placed on their website. The material used to make the pieces is ECONYL, a 100% regenerated nylon extracted from rescued waste from landfills and oceans all over the world.

Koru Swimwear

Koru is the Maori word for “spiral” and is symbolic for new life, hope, spiritual growth, purity, and peace.

Koru is a world leader in eco-responsible manufacturing processes and only uses sustainable fabrics. The firm also believes in giving back to the environment through tree planting and water treatment and conservation programmes and it promotes fair, equitable and legal working conditions. It’s also a member of 1% for the Planet and a partner of Healthy Seas.

Vaute Couture

Vaute is considered one of the world’s first vegan fashion brands. None of the fabrics used are of animal origin,  and they only uses sustainable, high-tech textiles.

The brand’s mission is to disrupt the fashion industry and remove animals from the fashion equation.
