Torre del Mar beach will once again host one of the biggest music festivals in the country. The latest additions to the line-up also include BAD GYAL, MEDINA AZAHARA, EXTRAWELT live, TALCO, ASLÁNDTICOS, GIORGIA ANGIULI live, NIKONE, TABLETOM, MR KILOMBO, M.E.M.O. and BLAKE y DANTE

The WEEKEND BEACH FESTIVAL at TORRE DEL MAR gets bigger every year and the line-up for its sixth edition, which will be held from 3 to 6 July, promises to be one of the highlights of summer 2019. In the latest additions to the line-up, the festival has confirmed one of the biggest names on the indie rock scene for 2019, who will perform songs from their anticipated new album “Mismo sitio, distinto lugar”: VETUSTA MORLA.

“Mismo sitio, distinto lugar” (Same spot, different place) is the fourth studio album from the band and features an unusual combination of introspection and energy that is a result of the band’s soul-searching self-analysis. The title of the new album, “Mismo sitio, distinto lugar” is also the name of the song that closes the album, closing the circle and giving the impression that Vetusta Morla are in the same place but somewhere different, home and haven.

Since he started out in the 90s, CHRIS LIEBING has become one of the biggest house and techno DJs in the world, with a style that can veer into hard or minimal techno but always stays groovy. He has won a number of awards, including Best National DJ in 2003 as chosen by the German dance industry, ahead of Sven Väth, Paul Van Dyk and Westbam. His latest release, “Burn slow” (Mute Records), has a more relaxed vibe that moves away from his classic dance floor style to explore deeper into spirituality and emotionality. The German DJ will be one of the main acts on the Sunrise stage at the festival.

BAD GYALTimes are changing, and big festivals are catching up. Urban music genres like trap and reggaeton are already popular on the streets, so of course, they deserve a place in the biggest music events. The third line-up announcement includes a female sensation who has taken over the dance floors, BAD GYAL, who will perform a set at Torre del Mar beach. The 21 years old, who until recently was still working in a bakery, now fills clubs and bars around Spain with her dancehall hits and has conquered producers such as El Guincho and Dubbel Dutch. Her tunes will light up the dancefloor at the Malaga festival.

WEEKEND BEACH always features classic acts, and this year Andalusian rock steals the show with living legends MEDINA AZAHARA on the line-up – one of the few bands that have kept producing music for generations without ever taking the easy route. They continue producing music for their fans, and they have released the new album “Trece rosas” (Thirteen roses), their most vindictive album that has not stopped rising through the charts.

They are joined by many more artists, including the hit singer from Carabanchel, NIKONE. With his own YouTube channels followed by thousands of fans, the singer has won over a huge fan following who listen to his reggae, rap, pop and even electronic songs that are all cradled in his innovative style, known as “biribibae“.

In terms of international artists on the line-up, the Italian ska punk band TALCO has been confirmed, with music influenced by Banda Bassotti, Ska-p, Mano Negra and The Clash that has seen the group rise to the top of ska combat rock. Their music, based on traditional Italian folk songs with support from wind instruments, make their concerts a real party.

MR KILOMBOThe Córdoba band ASLANDTICOS, made up of the trio Bueno, Alberto and Jorge, have also been booked for the festival and continue to offer the same flamenco pop mix as their beginnings over a decade ago. Their overwhelming energy brings everyone onto the dance floor.

As for local artists, the festival continues to support both established and up-and-coming local bands. On the one hand, the festival will showcase bands that made history in Malaga and beyond, and even though the band leader is sadly no longer with us, the local scene will be represented by TABLETOM. Faithful to their musical philosophy, the band has over 40 years of rock experience, and their performances are still flawless. Also confirmed is MR KILOMBO, Miki Ramirez’s rumba project that fuses timba, samba, reggae, ska and rock, inviting festival-goers to go crazy in the chaos. BLAKE y DANTE, also from Malaga, round off the local side of the festival.

Electronic music is another of the festival’s strong points. In addition to CHRIS LIEBING, the most dynamic stage will also feature a set by EXTRAWELT live, who have been making dance music history since Arne Schaffhausen and Wayan Raabe came together to form the group in the 90s. Where the normal world ends, Extrawelt begins. GIORGIA ANGIULI live is also included on the line-up, a great innovator of live techno house her voice and experimental techniques are used alongside different instruments to create a dreamy atmosphere. Finally, M.E.M.O.live has also been confirmed, a well-known Malaga DJ with versatile and elegant skills who combines talented technical skills with risk-taking tendencies.
