Destinia Global Travel has named Ricardo Fernández as the group’s General Manager, a new position through which the group aims to develop its growth strategy beyond the business of an online travel agency.

In his new role, Fernández, who previously held other positions including Destinia’s Strategy Director, will enhance the development of the group’s new business lines, including searching for corporate growth opportunities by purchasing or holding shares in companies.

In a press release issued, Destinia spoke of how the new General Manager, who holds a degree in Business Administration and Law from the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, will also promote the internationalisation of the group and will align the strategy in the original “B2C” business tied to the online travel agency.

Amuda Goueli, the group’s CEO and co-founder, explained how the group has spent the last few years exporting the knowledge acquired in Destinia to create new areas, and that the group also needed to make organisational changes to support this new change.

During this time, Destinia, which was founded in 2001, has also developed its tor.travel platform and house brand, which has just been recognised as one of Expedia’s Certified EPS Technology Partners, while offering technological solutions to third parties such as H10 and Kayak’s “flight + hotel” package.

Destinia, which is one of the five biggest online travel agencies in Spain, has around 2 million customers and a portfolio of 500,000 hotels and 600 airlines.

With over one hundred employees in Spain, the company “is immersed in an intense internationalisation process in the Middle East, and now has offices in Cairo (Egypt)”.
