Air travel to the Costa del Sol set to rise 13% during the first half of 2017

The UK will offer 225,000 more seats as compared to the same period in 2016

Airlines flying to the Costa del Sol during the first half of 2017 will offer 13% more seats than during the same period in 2016, according to a report on passenger forecasts.

The most significant source markets showing an increase include Sweden (46%), Italy (37%) and the Netherlands (32%), which between them are forecast to provide 163,000 additional passengers. The UK, the Costa del Sol’s main international market, will offer 225,000 additional seats (17%).

“This clearly shows that interest in the Costa del Sol is not only still high, but that it is increasing,” said Elías Bendodo, President of the Malaga Provincial Council, who welcomed the fact the “the main increase takes place before the start of spring, and this is excellent news for us in terms of managing seasonality, which is such a high priority for us.”

As a side note, the only market that shows a downward trend is Madrid-Barajas, with 33% fewer seats.

By airline, the biggest increases come from Jet2.com (56%), SAS (36%), Norwegian (29%), Ryanair (18%), Transavia (17%) and Monarch Airlines (10%).
