From the desert to coral reefs

The Egyptian region of Sharm el-Sheikh responds to multiple tastes of those who visit

Nature and relaxation in an almost unknown site. If that’s your goal, Sharm el-Sheikh is the perfect place to go. South of the Sinai Peninsula, it offers endless activities that combine sun and beach tourism, desert and diving in Ras Muhammad National Marine Park.

The city, known for hosting ceasefire summits and peace agreements between Israelis and Palestinians, is perfect for those seeking white sand and crystalline waters. Incredible resorts offer everything you need to relax, carefully planned with great detail.

If you want to combine rest with water activities and discover the colorful seabed around Sharm el-Sheikh, Ras Um Sid, Ras Nasrani, Shark Bay Jackson Reef and Gordon Reef are the best places to go.

But surely, Ras Muhammad is the jewel in the crown. National Park protected and respected by its visitors, was declared a reserve for the protection of marine and terrestrial wildlife in 1983 by the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA). Fishing and other human activities are prohibited. It is because of this that Ras Muhammad conserves one of the best coral reefs in the world and thousands of marine species. A feast for the eyes and senses.

The park also features the islands of Tiran and Sanafir, halfway between Egypt and Saudi Arabia, which have beautiful reefs and underwater caves that contrast with the dry sands outside.

Obviously, in Sharm el-Sheikh the desert is another major attraction. A journey through it, mounting a camel or in a jeep is mandatory activity if what you’re looking for is a total experience of contrasts.

On the other hand, if time allows it, we highly recommend taking the car about 300 km and visiting the Monastery of Santa Catalina, a World Heritage Site with the second largest collection of codices and manuscripts after the Vatican Museums.

100 km away from the monastery lies the Cañón Coloreado (Colored Canyon), which makes us understand that nature is not only beautiful when it has vegetation and water. This is one of the largest rock formations in the world, extends through about 30 km and reaches the height of up to 40 meters. The red and purple hues of their walls are impressive, bringing to mind the famous canyon in the American Colorado.

Whether the desert, the beach or the deep sea, it is true that Sharm el-Sheikh is a place worthy of being discovered.

Where to stay: BlueBay Savanna***** in Sharmk el-Sheik (new opening).
