In response to the impact of the human being on the reefs of the Mexican Caribbean, the Underwater Museum of Art (MUSA) began in 2009, in search for creating the right environment to develop marine life, as well as recover natural reefs and promote sustainable tourism on the seabed of Cancun, Isla Mujeres and Punta Nizuc.

MUSA It is a collection of around 500 statues of different artists permanently under the sea, some of the most impactful are: The Man in Flames, The Dream Collector, A Beatle, and The Silent Evolution.

The statues are made with a special marine concrete that allows the development of coral. Thanks to this material, it has been possible to form a great barrier of coral in this zone, considered the second largest in the world, only surpassed by the one of Australia.

You can easily find a tour to enjoy this wonderful combination of nature and human intervention, between biodiversity and art. If you are looking to spend a nice time with family and friends, we recommend the crystal-bottom boat or the snorkel tour, with which you can appreciate the statues from a short distance. These tours are ideal for children.

Now, for the more adventurous there are diving trips. From beginners to certified divers, these tours allow them to have a face-to-face contact with the statues and appreciate the beautiful seascapes. All tours depart from the dock at the Cancun Hotel Zone and last between 2 and 3 hours. For more information visit the museum website http://musamexico.org/.
