Cohiba legend turns half a century

Whether you’re a smoker or not, we are sure that if someone asks for cigars, in your brain you will quickly draw the word “Cohiba”. It is the most emblematic and famous brand of Habanos. Synonymous with exclusivity, it was originally intended only as a gift for the personalities of the Cuban government. It is not hard to find photos of important and historical actors, singers, writers and Fidel Castro himself, with one of these handcrafted jewels in his fingers. This year, Cohiba celebrates its golden anniversary in the market and it celebrates it in style.

Both those with knowledge on the subject and laymen agree that the prestige of Cohiba lies on two pillars: its elitist exclusivity and painstaking production process. A process that begins with the selection of the best seeds of tobacco leaves, continues with its complex cultivation in Vuelta Abajo, the western region of the Cuban province of Pinar del Rio, known as the cradle of the best tobacco in the world; and ending with the twisting and manufacturing by experienced craftsmen in the El Laguito cigar factory in Havana.

Cohiba was born under the aegis of the Cuban-British company Habanos S.A. in the 1960s, and it was in the 1980s when its international expansion began, becoming one of the stalwarts of Cuban culture in the world. A hard-won fame thanks to the high standards of product quality with an interesting marketing strategy, opting decisively for exclusivity and luxury. All this for the past 50 years has helped transform Cohiba in coveted gift, suitable only for the privileged.

On the occasion of its 50 year anniversary, the brand has just introduced the most exclusive and expensive puro in the world, “Cohiba 50 Aniversario”. Only 2,500 cigars have been developed for this special edition in a unique and unrepeatable series of only 50 humidors, ie caskets that preserve cigars in optimal conditions of humidity and temperature. Containers that are made with utmost care of precious woods such as ebony, sycamore and cedar under the supervision of the distinguished company based in Paris, Elie Bleu. Of course, each box is personalized with the owner’s name and a serial number. These cigars have a taste of medium to strong and are the first company to reach the “ringsize 60” (24 mm wide by 158 mm long).

This special edition is a work of art destined to become a collectors’ item over the consumption of the article itself. Moreover, the direction of the company said the vast majority of the 50 cases can be purchased at an auction to be held next June in Havana.

So if you have a few thousand euros in your pocket to spare or are just passionate about the world of cigars and want to attend the event of the “Cohiba 50th Anniversary,” we have a plan for you…

Fly to Varadero, Cuba’s most heavenly place, and stay in BelleVue Puntarena**** or BelleVue Playa Caleta ****. Make the most of the Caribbean and in just a few hours drive you will be in Havana, willing to give everything to get a “Cohiba 50 Aniversario”.
